6GStarLab

I2CAT-6GStarLab

i2CAT

Space (LEO)

In-orbit laboratory in low Earth orbit (LEO) for the research and development of non-terrestrial networks (NTN). It allows the experimental validation of new communication technologies in space for the advancement and standardisation of advanced 5G and 6G technologies.

Launch is planned for October 2025 and availability to use is planned for early 2026.

6GStarLab provides a flexible and virtualised testbed where researchers will be able to upload and execute experiments remotely. It supports experimentation across multiple RF bands (UHF, S, L, X and Ka-bands) and offers an advanced optical communication terminal (and their corresponding ground stations).

Use of the experimental lab infrastructure is free of charge. Users of the infrastructure will be charged for the engineering support effort required from i2CAT’s team to set up the environment for a specific use case/experiment.

The access to the lab infrastructure will be requested via a predefined form that will provide sufficient level of detail to evaluate the feasibility of the request.

Engineering support efforts from i2CAT’s team will be offered at a discounted hourly rate for Phi-LabNET users (10% discount).
