ESA Phi-LabNET Spain: first call for project financing

ESA Phi-LabNET Spain is the competence centre, located in Barcelona, for driving innovation for the commercialisation of space technologies to enhance climate resilience.

ESA’s PhiLabNET centres aim to create a dynamic network of centres across Europe focused on innovation, and whose results can be transferred to the market. Its main mission is to accelerate the future of the space sector, both upstream and downstream, based on innovation projects with high commercial potential that transform or create industrial fabrics through new technologies. The goal is, therefore, to strengthen competitiveness in the productive sector through European research and make Europe the world leader in this field.

Phi-LabNET Spain will support innovative and disruptive projects focused on specifically improving climate resilience through calls led by the consortium that coordinates it.

This first call is open to companies, research organisations and startups (legal entities or consortia registered in Spain or in ESA Member States, provided that they offer a clear benefit to Spain), and will remain open until January 21, 2025.

ESA Phi-LabNET Spain is a programme of the European Space Agency (ESA), supported by the Spanish Space Agency (AEE) and the Generalitat de Catalunya, and will have a duration of 6 years.

This new initiative is part of ESA’s ScaleUp Programme and is coordinated by the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (IEEC), as leader of a consortium formed by the i2CAT Foundation, the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC), the General CSIC Foundation, the KIMbcn Foundation, Arribes Enlightenment, the University of Valencia (UVEG), the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC),  the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC-CNS), the Ricardo Valle Institute of Innovation Foundation (INNOVA IRV), the ESA MELiSSA Pilot Plant of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO).

ESA Phi-LabNET Spain is located in the RDIT building of the Parc Mediterrani de la Tecnologia de Castelldefels, in Barcelona, also home to the IEEC and ESA-BIC Barcelona offices.
