SKOP

Beyond the limits of Climate Intelligence

Introduction

SKOP is Geoskop’s suite of proprietary algorithms that generate accurate climate predictions anywhere on Earth. This system is crucial for the energy sector, enabling utilities, traders, energy investors, and public entities to benefit from effective Climate Adaptation and build increased Climate Resilience. SKOP’s capabilities lie in the management of Big Climate Data and remote sensing, integrating these with advanced algorithms to generate climate predictions.

SKOP Project

Objectives

  • Better ground-truth: Assimilation of satellite data to generate more accurate historical time series.
  • Improve prediction’s accuracy: Enhance SKOP’s outputs by combining proprietary bias correction with Deep Learning techniques to achieve skillful climate predictions.
  • Reduce operational costs: Cut prediction time from two weeks to two days through Deep Learning based automation.
  • Client validation: Engage with up to three clients to test and align the technology with real market needs.

Space-driven Innovation

Geoskop proposes a disruptive technology that combines, for the first time, remote sensing, climate modeling, and AI to enhance climate prediction. Specifically, the project will post-process and combine data from satellites such as AEOLUS (ESA), Meteosat (EUMETSAT), GOES (NOAA), and Himawari (JMA) to increase the representativeness of predictions.

Impact on climate resilience

The SKOP project is fundamentally designed to enhance climate adaptation and resilience capabilities of the society, with a particular focus on the energy sector. The current industry heavily relies on historical data, which is no longer reliable due to changing climate patterns, hindering effective climate adaptation.

The socio-economic impact of SKOP is significant, allowing companies to adopt a proactive role in climate adaptation rather than merely reacting. By optimizing investments and operations in renewable energy, SKOP’s technology drives the Energy Transition and contributes to CO2 mitigation.

From Lab to Market: Clients and Commercial Roadmap

This technology will enable companies to make data-driven decisions, based on the scientific evidence on climate change and satellite observations, disrupting the market with a new level of predictive accuracy. In addition to these impacts, SKOP will push for the Energy Transition, not only making renewable energy investments sustainable, but contributing to a more stable and reliable electricity system powered with green energy.

The commercial roadmap includes ongoing market discovery and collaboration with up to three clients to test and validate the technology in real conditions. Geoskop already works with major energy stakeholders, helping refine the product and ensure market alignment. After the project, the solution will be scaled across the renewable energy sector and extended to adjacent markets such as agriculture and water management.
